Die zentralen Themen des Buches sind die Auseinandersetzung mit der Ausländerbehörde und Polizei, die Arbeitsaufnahme, der Schulbesuch, das Studium, der Anschluss an religiöse Gemeinschaften, der Genuss von afrikanischer Musik, das Verhältnis von Männern und Frauen unter westafrikanischen Migranten, die deutsch-afrikanische Eheschließung, die Einbettung des kulturellen »Gepäcks« in die hiesige Gesellschaft sowie Gedanken an Rückkehr, aber auch Überlegungen zur Annäherung der Kulturen. Das Buch zeichnet Lebenswege von Afrikanerinnen und Afrikanern, die in Hamburg leben, nach; es zeigt, wie sie hier leben und wie sie sich in unserer Gesellschaft fühlen. Es erörtert nicht die einschlägigen Debatten um Zuwanderung, doppelte Staatsbürgerschaft und Wahlrecht; diese zentralen Aspekte bleiben aber keineswegs ungeachtet. Es geht vielmehr um die Frage der Integration und Akzeptanz von afrikanischen Mitmenschen in der Gesellschaft, um Erwartungen von Afrikanerinnen und Afrikanern gegenüber Menschen in Hamburg und umgekehrt. Die größte Gruppe der afrikanischen MigrantInnen in Hamburg bilden die Ashanti aus Ghana. Besonders stellen die HerausgerberInnen die Situation der Haussa aus Ghana dar. Die HerausgeberInnen und ihre Ko-AutorInnen kommen aus den Bereichen der Afrikanistik, der Ethnologie, Soziologie und Politologie, Geschichtswissenschaften, Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaften sowie Religions- und Musikwissenschaften. Dennoch beabsichtigen die Autorinnen und Autoren keine wissenschaftliche Analyse. Die Grundlage dieses Buches bilden Erfahrungen aus der Sozialarbeit und im persönlichen Umgang mit Afrikanerinnen und Afrikanern wie auch Berichte von afrikanischen Mitmenschen und ihre Erfahrungen in Hamburg. Die Erfahrungen sind manchmal positiv, häufig jedoch überschattet von Rassismus und Diskriminierung. Die Wurzeln in zwei Welten" werden sehr eindrucksvoll beschrieben. Die MigrantInnen befinden sich, besonders im Rahmen einer binationalen Partnerschaft, in einem kulturellen Spagat zwischen ihrer afrikanischen Herkunft und Identität und ihrer Eingliederung in Europa. Die lange Auseinandersetzung mit der Ausländerbehörde in Hamburg zwingt manche zur Remigration", z.B. nach Spanien, die anschaulich beschrieben wird, sowie zur Rückkehr nach Afrika. Das HerausgeberInnen-Team erspart uns Details über Abschiebepraktiken undBrechmitteleinsätze; die bekannten Fälle werden jedoch exemplarisch angeführt. Die behandelten Polizeischulungen, die auf Anfrage der Polizei durch das Asien-Afrika-Instituts der Universität Hamburg durchgeführt werden, sind in ihrer Intention fraglich, denn die Seminare zur Förderung der interkulturellen Verständigung können nur bedingt die Gewalt verhindern, der sich Flüchtlinge häufig durch die Polizei ausgesetzt sehen. Maßnahmen zur Integration und Bestandteile der multikulturellen Erziehung" werden als grundlegender Baustein innerhalb eines Komplexes des Aufenthaltsverfahrens dargestellt, denn der Aufenthaltstatus, die Arbeitserlaubnis und die Motivation eines afrikanischen Jugendlichen, sich in die deutsche Gesellschaft einzufügen und Deutsch zu lernen, sind voneinander abhängig. Schranken des Rassismus, die zur Separation führen, treiben MigrantInnen in die Isolation. Besonders für Pädagogen und für Alle, die sich im Rahmen der Sozialarbeit mit Afrikanerinnen und Afrikanern befassen, aber auch für Alle, die diesen Mitmenschen aufgeschlossen gegenüberstehen, ist dieses Buch sehr lesenswert. Wurzeln in zwei Welten ist das erste wissenschaftliche Buch, dass sich wie ein Roman verschlingen lässt. Es ist klar und verständlich geschrieben, bleibt spannend und liest sich gut. Das hängt bestimmt auch damit zusammen, dass ich in Hamburg wohne und dadurch einen direkten Bezug zur Thematik des Buches habe, aber ich denke, es ist für alle lesenswert. Dass die Situation westafrikanischere MigrantInnen in Hamburg von vielen verschiedenen Seiten beleuchtet wird, erlaubt einem ein tieferes Verständnis für die ihre Lage.
