Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Fine. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. DESCRIPTION: Small folio 14 1/4 H x 10 1/4 W (363 x 260 mm), 194 pages. Limited edition, one of 210 copies. Introduction by Frederic W. Goudy entitled 'The Craft of the Printer' and a brief note by Edwin Grabhorn. Binding is quarter goatskin with linen cloth over boards,… five raised bands, spine titled blind-stamped. Printed in red and black with Goudy Franciscan type on a luxurious, thick handmade Canson & Montgolfier Papier Ancien made in France. This volume includes notations on over three hundred works in their first 25 years with numerous reproductions and four bifolia including three from their finest works - 'The Voyage and Travaile of Sir John Maundeville' , 'Leaves of Grass' and 'The Santa Fe Trail to California'. Protected with an archival, clear Grafix Dura Lar dust wrapper. Without slipcase, as issued.______ CONDITION: Fine. Small shallow crease at head of spine just below the raised band, trivial rubbing at edge of 2nd and 3rd raised bands (see photo) , otherwise fine. The goatskin leather used for the spine in this edition is notorious for aging poorly with considerable degradation over time (Note: the Grabhorns must have consulted the Davies sisters at Gregynog Press in this regard), with many copies requiring rebacking, but this is the unusual and scarce example of an entirely original binding with the leather spine beautifully preserved. Aside from faint bookseller notation in pencil, no markings or ex-libris. Text block square and firm, all hinges intact. No foxing or toning.______ DISCUSSION: This ranks with the Ashendene Press Bibliography as the finest private press bibliography of the twentieth century. In setting out to produce a summary of their first 25 years, the Grabhorns proclaimed that "Not only will this be one of the finest books the Grabhorn Press has ever printed, but it will be without doubt the most beautiful bibliography ever printed in America." They succeeded admirably in this regard because the quality of the letterpress printing across the three volumes of the complete Grabhorn Bibliography is exceptional, so much so that this volume was recognized by the Grolier Club in their landmark exhibit and book 'A Century for the Century, 1900-1999' in which one hundred of the finest and/or most important twentieth century private press books were exhibited and honored. This is a superb copy of a typographical masterpiece. NOTE: This is a large, heavy book and international shipping cost using USPS International Priority EXPRESS mail with tracking to most locations inthe United Kingdom and Europe is $100 U.S. dollars. Shippingcost to more distant locations may incur additional cost. Please see my comments regarding USPS international shipping and tracking in my AbeBooks storefront.
