Das Georg-Eckert-Institut wurde 1975 durch das Land Niedersachsen mit dem Auftrag gegründet, internationale Schulbuchforschung durchzuführen und Empfehlungen für Bildungspolitik und Verlage zu erarbeiten. Seine Geschichte begann allerdings schon 1951, als Georg Eckert an der Kant-Hochschule in Braunschweig das Internationale Institut für Schulbuchverbesserung ins Leben rief, um damit einen Beitrag zur internationalen Verständigung zu leisten. Von Anfang an bildete dafür die Schulbuchbibliothek die zentrale Grundlage. Heute umfasst die Forschungsbibliothek des GEI die weltweit größte internationale Sammlung von geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Lehr- und Lernmaterialien. Das Buch, das hier in 2., überarbeiteter Auflage vorliegt, zeigt, was das GEI für die Schulbuchrevision geleistet hat und wie es maßgeblich zur Entwicklung der Schulbuch- und Bildungsmedienforschung beigetragen hat. Dieses wissenschaftliche Feld nimmt in der Gegenwart neben Schulbüchern auch digitale Bildungsmedien und die Methoden ihrer Erforschung in den Blick. Sprache: Deutsch.
