Après une carrière de coureur automobile, soldée par un accident en 1905, il se lance dans une carrière d'aviateur avec plusieurs records homologués par la Fédération internationale d'aéronautique. Avec ses deux frères Dick et Maurice, il fonde en 1919 une compagnie de construction aérienne après les succès des premiers avions Farman dessinés par Maurice depuis 1910. En 1924, il crée avec ses deux frères la Société générale des transports aériens, qui sera intégrée à Air France en 1933. E.O.

Henri Farman war 1908 der erste Motorflug der Welt über eine Distanz von einem Kilometer gelungen; 1912 gründete er mit seinen Brüdern Maurice und Richard eine Flugzeugproduktionsfirma, in der u. a. die für jene Zeit charakteristischen Doppeldecker mit Druckschraube hergestellt wurden. Farman-Flugzeuge wurden auf alliierter Seite im Ersten Weltkrieg als Aufklärungs- und Beobachtungsmaschinen eingesetzt, der Typ M.F.11 als leichtes Kampfflugzeug (Shorthorn"); nach dem Krieg gründete Farman zusammen mit Maurice die erste Linienfluggesellschaft Farman Lines", die später in die Air France überging.

First edition of this catalogue from the early pioneers of aviation, including a striking double-page spread of a Farman biplane flying low over the Parisian skyline. Henri Farman (1874-1958) and his brother Maurice (1877-1964)designed and constructed aircraft from 1908 to 1936, notably helping to pioneer the use of ailerons in aircraft design. By 1911, they had achieved several aviation firsts, including the first circular flight of 1KM, and a world record endurance flight of 146 miles. At the rear, a price list records the 17 models then offered by the brothers, with the "Type militaire courant", fitted with a 50hp Gnome engine, costing 28,000 francs. Quarto. Original grey wrappers, stab-sewn as issued, front cover embossed and printed in grey, yellow, and silver, rear cover with publisher's imprint blocked in grey. Light rubbing, minor foxing to outer leaves: a very good copy.
