Aggiungi al carrelloLeather. Condizione: Very Good. None (illustratore). A copy of this collection of short stories, known in English as 'The Amateur Cracksman', which follows the adventures of the British gentleman thief Arthur J. Raffles. Translated from English to French by Henry Evie. Containing: 'Les Ides de mars', 'Une piece costumee', 'Gentlemen et professionnels', 'Le premier pas', 'Un assassinat', 'A cote de la loi', 'La revanche d'un match', and 'Le present de l'empereur'. The front blank has a pencil inscription reading 'L'Odeon Theatre, Paris, May 1935'. (The Odeon Theatre is one of France's six national theatres). The character Raffles, first created in the 1890s, is often regarded as an inversion of the sleuth Sherlock Holmes, created by Hornung's brother in law Arthur Conan Doyle. Raffles supports his lavish London lifestyle and career as a cricketer by carrying out ingenious burglaries. A master of disguise, he nevertheless relies on his more innocent sidekick Bunny to evade capture. In a half leather binding. Externally, smart, with only light shelfwear. Ink names and addresses to front blanks. Internally, generally firmly bound, although the first front blank is starting. Pages are lightly age-toned with light spots. Very Good. book.

Aggiungi al carrello1st Edition. 1st Edition. Signed by Author. Miller, Henry. [Evie Miller]. Two page Als from Evie [Miller] Big Sur 5-6-65. "Dear Henry / before business, I must tell you about a fascinating dream I had about you last night. It was so vivid & exciting, it woke me up at 2 a.m. and I had to read an hour or so after jotting it down so I wouldn't let it slip entirely. / A house somewhere, and you wanted me to see the kitchen, which you yourself had either decorated or painted. (The whole dream was a series of paintings really.) the kitchen was a fantastic abstract painting - high ceiling, with open cabinets containing supermarket quantities of canned goods - arranged in abstract form as to color, etc [not pop art-!] Blobs of luscious reds, obviously tomatoes, plums, crab-apples, etc. . . I turned and looked up , and there were 5 or 6 8' watercolors - all in rich pastel colors - all of the streets, tall apartments, city scenes - Paris, New York, that feeling - . . . Many self portraits - all heads - . . . Marvelous all of them! . . / Much love / Evie". In fine condition. Provenance: PBA /The Personal Archive of Henry Miller Part I Fine Modern Literature Thursday, June 26, 1997. Original Autographed Letters & Documents. Signed by Author.
