First UK edition, first impression, undated but 1944 from other bibliographic sources. Some edge wear, chipping, rubbing and small loss to top and bottom of striking colourful signed jacket by sculptor and artist Henry Moore (Moore 44.), spine somewhat faded and with 1" piece missing from bottom spine and small piece from top spine, corners rubbed and bruised with small loss, not price clipped (8s 6d), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age and poor wartime paper. 185pp. A collection of essays and short stories. Henry Treece (1911-66), was a popular and prolific historical novelist for children, I have been able to find out almost nothing about Stefan Schimanski, beyond the supposition that he may have been a Polish Jew who fled to America to escape the Nazis. Henry Moore (1898-1986), was one of the greatest sculptors and artists of the 20th century. A scarce book.
