First edition, scarce in commerce, presenting seven legends, including "How the bamboo came to blossom," "What the bee gave the red lotus", and "The reward of arrogance." Henslowe, a rather enigmatic figure, published on a diverse range of topics. It is unclear whether he produced these translations or acquired them from another… source. Octavo. Illustrations by Gwen Yarrow in text. Original illustrated card wrappers, front cover lettered in black and red. Wrappers somewhat worn, half-title slightly adhering to front wrapper verso at gutter due to production fault, occasional spotting: very good.
