She came from the Beecher family, a famous religious family, and is best known for her nov…el Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852), which depicts the harsh conditions for enslaved African Americans. The book reached millions as a novel and play, and became influential in the United States and Great Britain, energizing anti-slavery forces in the American North, while provoking widespread anger in the South. Stowe wrote 30 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and collections of articles and letters. She was influential for both her writings and her public stances on social issues of the day. 530 pages with several portraits and illustrations plus index. Light edge wear to boards and spine cover, previous owner's name inside, play in front hinge, page outer edges tanned, edge tears in a few pages. No Dust Jacket. Blue cloth over boards with gilt lettering and design on the front and spine.

Written by your true Friend / Harriet Beecher Stowe / Jany 2, 1890." This work by Rev. Charles Edward Stowe was sold by subscription beginning in 1889 for $3.50 per book. A second printing appeared shortly after, dated 1890 on the title page. This work is considered far superior to other biographies which appeared during the same era, due to cooperation of Mrs. Stowe and the access granted to her letters and journals.
