Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardcover, no dustjacket, scarce original edition, 395 pages, this copy was acquired, along with several other volumes, from the personal library of author/economist Charles Issawi who has been referred to as "the father of the study of the modern economic history of the Middle East," Issawi signed his name in most of his books but unfortunately not in this one meaning that you will have to accept our word that the light pencil markings on several of the pages were made by him, they could easily be erased but do not interfere with any of the text and considering the source we feel they are an asset, the cloth binding has some rubbing at the corners and the gold title on the spine, while still visible, is a bit faded, the binding is tight and square and there are no other remarkable flaws, apparently, Volume 2 was never published.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very good condition. First edition. Quarto. x, 221pp. Original black cloth with blind-stamped emblem on cover and gilt lettering on spine. Publisher's device on title page. " With this volume the publication of the Zenon documents in the Columbia University collection is completed, with the exception of a few scraps so small and so fragmentary that they can have no future importance. To the Zenon papyri in this volume we have added four Ptolemaic examples of later date, Nos. 119122. In spite of objections raised against the omission of accents and breathings in P Columbia III (Volume I of the present work), we hold to the system there used as giving a more accurate representation of the original texts than is attained through the accentuated forms. Slight deviations from the method of reference to other publications which was used in P Columbia III are recorded in the list of abbreviations. The reviewers of the first volume (P Col. III) have made a number of suggestions in regard to the reading and interpretation of the documents published here; these have been carefully considered and embodied, where we came to agree with them, in the Corrigenda at the end of this volume." (Preface). Illustrated with seven b/w reproductions of papyri. Contains list of papyri and abbreviations used at front, corrigenda and indices at rear. Binding with very light wear along edges. Block lightly age-toned.
