Hardcover, no dustjacket, scarce original edition, 395 pages, this copy was acquired, along with several other volumes, from the personal library of author/economist Charles Issawi who has been referred to as "the father of the study of the modern economic history of the Middle East…," Issawi signed his name in most of his books but unfortunately not in this one meaning that you will have to accept our word that the light pencil markings on several of the pages were made by him, they could easily be erased but do not interfere with any of the text and considering the source we feel they are an asset, the cloth binding has some rubbing at the corners and the gold title on the spine, while still visible, is a bit faded, the binding is tight and square and there are no other remarkable flaws, apparently, Volume 2 was never published.

Majid Khadduri [1909-2007] was a Professor of Middle East Studies at the School of Advanced International Studies of The Johns Hopkins University and Director of Research and Education at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D. Liebesny [1911-1985] was a member of the Advisory Board of the Middle East Journal and author of The Government of French North Africa and Foreign Legal Systems: A Comparative Analysis.
