Third Printing; Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good+. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Illustrated by Herman Ellis (illustratore). Revised Edition. 1979, 3rd printing, revised edition. Cover is dark blue with white lettering on spine. End papers are map of Straits of Mackinac. Pages are clean and tight. Illustrated with 204 b/w photos. Originally published in 1958. Foreword by former Michigan Gov. G. Mennen [Soapy] Williams, and an essay on the design by the bridge designer Dr. David B. Steinman. When the Mackinac Bridge was built it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, and is still one of the longest. It connects the lower peninsula of Michigan with the upper, and is quite a thrill to drive across. This is a picture story of the construction of the 'Mighty Mac'. Every year, on Labor Day morning, the bridge is closed off to automotive transport, as the annual bridge walk takes place, usually led by thecurrent Governor Of Michigan. It is almost 5 miles across the entire span. Tipped in are two certificates for participants of the 1981 Labor Day walk, led by then Gov. William G. Milliken. There are also two newspaper articles tipped in, about the bridge walk for that day. Oversized, 4#. ; B&W Photographs; 8 3/4 x 11 1/2; 100+ pages; Cover has some edge wear, bumping, and light rubbing. DJ has edge wear, sunning, rubbing; in a mylar cover.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Watercolors (in black and white photographs) by Steffi Rubin (illustratore). 1st Edition. Apparent First Edition (NAP, Dryad Press=NAP). Herman Taube signed quite a few copies of this book, but only one to William Donat, who was a survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto. I purchased the book some years ago from the family of Mr. Donat. The inscription reads 'To William Donat, who follows the footsteps of his great fathers in keeping the memory of our martyrs and heroes alive. With all good wishes and greetings, Hermann Taube, Feb 23, 1986.' You can see the signed inscription in the second photograph). You can also see the covers in the photos. They look very clean. The wear is minimal. There is a thin crease below the rear top corner. The page edges are very clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. I'm not seeing any soiling at all. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. There is a very light crease at the top corners of a good number of pages. This tells us that the crease below the top corner of the rear cover was created by a bump. The rear cover also holds a short blurb from Arnost Lustig, a Czech Jewish novelist and playwright who often wrote about the Holocaust: 'His (Taube's) poems are for me a mirror of a beautiful and sensitive soul, a journey on a dark road of generations past, where light and hope always shine a few steps ahead.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
