Verlagsanzeige : Die Ägypter des Alten Reiches wußten bereits vor mehr als 4000 Jahren von der Existenz eines rätselhaften Volkes kleinwüchsiger Menschen Innerafrikas. Am Pharaonenhof waren diese dng (sprich deneg) genannten Leute als Gottestänzer, denen man kultische Fähigkeiten zusc…hrieb, außerordentlich geschätzt. Die Naturverbundenheit dieses »Waldvolkes« legte nahe, ihm besondere Vertrautheit mit den Gottheiten zuzuschreiben. In der griechischen Antike und im Mittelalter beruhte das Wissen über Pygmäen nur mehr auf Hörensagen. Neuerliche Kunde von Begegnungen mit ihnen stammt aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, aber erst 200 Jahre später berichteten Forschungsreisende eingehender über Leben und Gebräuche der kleinwüchsigen Regenwaldbewohner. Daß die Pygmäen tatsächlich zu den ältesten noch lebenden Neuzeitmenschen gehören, wissen wir heute dank anatomischer, morphologischer und genetischer Untersuchungen. Ihre angestammte »paläolithische« Lebensweise, die ihnen das Fortbestehen bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein ermöglichte, ist jedoch inzwischen durch die anhaltende Zerstörung des äquatorialen Regenwaldes und das Vordringen von Brandrodung und Wanderfeldbau betreibenden Hackbauerkulturen stark bedroht. Seßhaftigkeit, Akkulturationsprozesse, Zivilisationskrankheiten und Alkohol haben bewirkt, daß zahlreiche Pygmäen-Populationen heute nur mehr ein Zerrbild ihrer einstigen Identität bieten. Im Rahmen vergleichender, interkultureller Untersuchungen zur Ethologie des Menschen und unter Verwendung einmaligen Film- und Bildmaterials dokumentiert Armin Heymer die an ein natürliches Ökosystem angepaßte Lebensweise und die Mechanismen des Sozialverhaltens einer in ihrer Existenz bedrohten einzigartigen Sammler- und Jägergesellschaft. - Armin Heymer, geboren 1937, seit 1959 Mitarbeiter am Institut für Meeresforschung in Banyuls-sur-Mer, ab 1965 am Institut für Allgemeine Ökologie in Brunoy. Promovierte bei Pierre Paul Grasse, habilitierte sich 1970 an der Sorbonne in Ethologie, weilte 1971 als Gast der Israelischen Akademie der Wissenschaften an der Universität Tel Aviv. Seit 1972 in Zusammenarbeit mit der Forschungsstelle für Humanethologie in der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in Andechs Felduntersuchungen zur Öko-Ethologie der Pygmäen in Äquatorial-Afrika.
