Holiday House began in 1935 and was the first publishing house in the US founded with the sole purpose of publishing children's books. Helen Gentry (1897-1988) was one of the founders and a masterful typographer and designer whose artistic craftsmanship and meticulousness revolutionized (and elevated) how children's book were physically made. Anne Heyneman (1909-1968), illustrator and author, collaborated with Gentry on several children's books at Holiday House.
