Author's nine-line ink inscription "20 July 1962 | To Major General W.S. Brown, | A true Marine, and the finest field commander under whom | it has ever been my privilege and pleasure to serve. With | sincere respect of the author - | Norman W. Hicks | Major USMC | 1st Bn, 1st Marines | Korea - 1951" at top of title page (i.e. page i). Interior pages are otherwise clean. Slight rust to staples but binding is firm. Typescript-style text. Inscribee is USMC Major General Wilburt S. Brown (1900-1968) who was married to Martha Stennis Brown (1911-1998), a relation to Mississippi U.S. Senator John C. Stennis; General and Mrs. Brown are interred in a family plot in a Newton, Mississippi cemetery; book was acquired from the Columbus, Mississippi estate of a sister of Mrs. Brown.
