Early edition of The Land of Burns, a Series of Landscapes and Portraits, Illustrative of the Life and Writings of The Scottish Poet in half calf bindings and marbled boards.Complete in two volumes.By Prof…essor John Wilson and Robert Chambers.The landscapes from paintings made expressly for the work by David Octavius Hill, the Scottish painter and photographer.A lovely biography of the life and writings of Robert Burns, an eighteenth century poet, well regarded as the national poet of Scotland and pioneer of the Romantic movement.Volume I has forty seven monochrome plates and Volume II has thirty three out of the thirty five plates listed. The plates facing page vii and page twenty of Volume II are missing. Collated. Volume I is complete. In half calf bindings and marbled boards. Externally, sound. The rear board to Volume II is detached, and the front board is working loose, with the front hinge held by cords only, a crack to the front joint and wear to the spine. Volume II is also missing one of the spine labels and half of the second spine label. There is rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines and to the extremities of both volumes. The boards are also quite worn. The hinges of Volume I are strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some light spotting. Good Only.
