T…he endpapers are yellow with the name of a former owner and the date 1857, there is a paper stamp at the back endpapers which says "Bound by B. Bradley and Co. Boston" the frontispiece is of Thomas Campbell and still has the tissue paper attached. The interior is bright and clean although it is lightly age yellowed. 427pp. which includes the appendix and notes.

Wardwell, Cambridge, Aug 4th,1856" George Smith Wardwell, 1829-1895, was a member of the Harvard class of 1855, and later a judge of the Municipal Court of Buffalo, New York, and a member of the inaugural faculty of the Law School of the Unoversity of Buffalo (1891). Wardwell, with his brother William, was a member of the Niagara Baseball Club in 1857, the first organized baseball team to play the game in the City of Buffalo. An exciting collection of seventeen profusely illustrated installments in the prominent archaeological series, neatly bound as nine volumes. Collection comprised of Volumes 56 to 72 of the Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological Society, uniformly bound in navy cloth as nine vol…umes. Highly illustrated throughout. Excluding the first three works, all subsequent installments are introduced by a vignette title page printed on blue paper. Volume 56 contains five folding maps; Volume 57 contains ten; Volume 58 contains seven; Volumes 59-60 contains five; and Volumes 67-69 contains one. Volumes 59-60 also features sixteen pages of plates, and twenty-two pages of figures to the rear. Volumes 61-63 contains one hundred pages of figures between pages 74-128 and 36-72. A number of relevant inserts are tipped in throughout the collection, including several publisher's order forms, the minutes of a 1963 meeting of the Caradoc and Severn Valley Field Club, and, most notably, a very scarce copy of The "Itinerary" of John Leland, So Far as it Relates to Shropshire, of which only twenty-five were printed. An extensive collection of articles detailling the research of the society, alongside contemporary administrative information, such as members, meetings and publications. Formed in 1877, the Shropshire Archaeological Society, now the Shropshire Archaeological and Historical Society, is still running today. Uniformly bound in navy cloth. A number of items tipped in throughout the collection, including several publisher's order forms, a 1970 letter alongside the rules of the society, a number of leaflets for a 1994 concert at St Michael & All Angels High Ercall, the minutes of a 1963 meeting of the Caradoc and Severn Valley Field Club, the 1995/6 Autumn & Winter Programme of the Caradoc and Severn Valley Field Club and, most notably, a very scarce copy of The "Itinerary" of John Leland, So Far as it Relates to Shropshire". The first four copies are ex-libris from Lincoln's Inn Library, containing several stamps to the first few pages, with Volume 58 featuring the ex-libris bookplate to the front paste down. Externally, smart with minor bumping and rubbing, resulting in a number of marks, more common to the shorter volumes, and the beginnings of peeling to the title pieces of the larger volumes. Internally, firmly bound, the odd few pages being stuck together. Very bright and clean with the occasional spot, more common to the first and last few pages. Very Good.
