Aggiungi al carrelloColour woodblock, 26.5 x 38.6cm. Very good condition. One of a series of prints of traditional Korean life by Japanese printmaker Hiyoshi Mamoru, printed in Kyoto by the Mautsuda studio. Hiyoshi was active from the 1920s to the 1950s, and is known for his lively and colourful prints of Japanese and Korean life. This print may have been made in the 1950s, but the tranquil scene it shows seems far removed from Korean realities during the era of the Korean War, more likely reflecting the Korea the artist remembered from the period in the 1930s when he lived in the country. It depicts a street scene with a stone city gateway in the background, and the foreground filled with villagers going about their daily business, including a man leading an ox laden with pickle jars and a woman carrying a large bowl on her head.
