Thomas Rowlandson (1757-1827) was a British draughtsman, watercolourist, printmaker and caricaturist, particularly celebrated for his lively and frequently satirical depictions of Georgian society and influential figures including Georgiana the Duchess of Devonshire, and Napoleon Bonaparte. The editor, Adolph Paul Oppe (1878-1957) was a British art historian, collector and museum official whose scholarship helped establish the serious study of British drawing.
