So entstehen Werke, in denen beispielsweise die Erinnerungen an die Lektüre von Erich Kästners Roman Das fliegende Klassenzimmer oder an die Erwähnung des Kinderkreuzzugs im Geschichtsunterricht zu eindrücklichen Bildern verdichtet werden. Ein grüner Wackelpudding auf einem Tisch mit Resopal-Auflage, zwei kniende Messdiener, der Schlafsaal eines ostwestfälischen Internats - abgesehen von den persönlichen Erinnerungen und Fantasien reflektieren die Arbeiten des Künstlers immer auch den Prozess der Sozialisation einer in den 1950er und frühen 1960er Jahren im Westen Deutschlands aufgewachsenen Generation. / Memories of childhood are central to the artistic oeuvre of Martin Honert, who was born in Bottrop, a city in the northern Ruhr region, in 1953. Working from images that have remained lodged in his memory, the artist dramatizes moments from his own biography and turns them into elaborately produced three-dimensional objects. This results in works in which, for example, memories of reading Erich Kästners novel Das fliegende Klassenzimmer (The Flying Classroom) or the mention of the Childrens Crusade in history class are condensed into striking images: a green Jell-0 on a table with a Resopal tabletop, two kneeling altar boys, the dormitory of a boarding school in eastern Westphalia. Apart from personal memories and fantasies the artists works always reflect the socialization process of a generation born in West Germany in the 1950s and early 1960s.
