An immediate success, it sold over a million copies a week a…fter only two months.Founded by Edward Hulton, it held a liberal, anti-Fascist, and populist view, and it actively campaigned against the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany. Edited by Tom Hopkinson, Vol. 44 No. 12, containing articles on contemporary mundane events such as the end of summer, an article on Osbert Sitwell by William Sansom, discussions on the 'ghosts' of Germany, and more.
