Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. One of the signature country-pop crossover songs of the late 1940s, "Mockin' Bird Hill" was written by prolific songwriter Vaughn Horton and first published in 1949. The song achieved lasting popularity through recordings by numerous artists, most famously Les Paul and Mary Ford, whose innovative guitar techniques and multi-track vocal harmonies helped define the sound of early popular music in the 1950s. The front cover features a period photograph of the celebrated husband-and-wife duo in their home recording environment, making this an especially desirable edition for collectors of early electric guitar history and American popular music. This copy is in Very Good condition. The cover remains bright and clean with light overall age toning, modest edge and corner wear, and a few shallow corner creases. A neat contemporary owner's name, "Nancy Whitman," appears in ink at the upper right corner of the front cover. Interior pages are clean and complete with light age toning and minor handling wear typical of vintage sheet music. The fold remains secure with no detached pages, significant tears, or major losses observed. Copyright 1949 by Southern Music Publishing Co., Inc., New York. This appears to be an original 1949 issue published during the song's first year of release. The rear cover advertises contemporary Southern Music titles including Lazybones, Take Me Back to My Boots and Saddle, Toolie Oolie Doolie (The Yodel Polka), Waiting for the Robert E. Lee, and J'attendrai, all consistent with an early postwar Southern Music publication. This edition is especially appealing because it features Les Paul and Mary Ford rather than generic cover art. Long before Les Paul became synonymous with the Gibson electric guitar bearing his name, he revolutionized recorded music through pioneering overdubbing, multitrack recording, tape delay, and close-microphone techniques. Contemporary sheet music depicting the duo serves as both musical ephemera and an artifact documenting one of the most influential partnerships in recording history, making these editions significantly more desirable than later printings lacking their photographic cover. Vaughn Horton (1903-1988) was an American songwriter, lyricist, and publisher whose compositions bridged country, western, and popular music. Among his best-known works are "Mockin' Bird Hill" and the English adaptation of "Toolie Oolie Doolie (The Yodel Polka)." His songs became standards through recordings by leading performers during the postwar era.…
