George Houser was a minister, Civil Rights activist, and activist for the independence of African nations. In 1942, with James Farmer and Bernice Fisher, he co-founded the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in Chicago. This issue prints an article called "F.O.R. Timeline: A Century of Remarkable People"; p.12 prints a portrait of George Houser (who is white) with a quote.

An interesting association copy being George M. Houser's copy with a gift inscription from his parents on the front fly. George and his wife Jean's names penned in Jean's hand on the front fly as well. George Houser helped found, in 1953, the American Committee on Africa (ACOA); from 1955-1981, he served as Executive Director of the ACOA and he also was Executive Director of The Africa Fund from 1966-1981. "At ACOA he spearheaded numerous campaigns supporting African struggles for liberation and independence. Since 1954 he. made over 30 trips to Africa. His support of liberation movements led him to develop close ties with many African leaders. He served on the Advisory Committee of the African Activist Archive Project." [per Wikipedia].

Framfari was an Icelandic language newspaper published in a log printshop in Riverton, Manitoba, and was the first Icelandic newspaper in North America. It strove to inform the readership, educate the settlers in agricultural methods, foster a progressive attitude, and inspire loyalty among the early Icelandic settlers. It was only published for three years, and ceased publication on January 30, 1880 due to the internal divisions at the newspaper.
