Book block aged stained with light mark on the right side. Overall a great book for it age. Wilbur H Howcroft was born in Kerang, Victoria, in 1917 and some some five years later journeyed in a wagon with the family possessions to Culgoa in the Victorian Mallee. There his family settled on a wheat and sheep farm two miles north of the township. Our hero still works the same property to this very day. Then followed many years in which drought, dust storms, mouse and rabbit plagues, rock-bottom wheat prices, and, as our rustic writer graphically described it, "The ever-present fear of that ,ost sinister of figures - the mortgagee" seemingly predominated. Radio listeners to a popular national morning session will have heard many of his poems broadcast. When this book went to print he has one book of verse to his credit and another volume of rural tales in the throes of publication. Meet Wilbur G. Howcroft - you will enjoy the experience. …
