In this issue, along with numerous Women's Fashion Illustrations, there is a continuation of a Wouldbegoods story by Edith Nesbit. This story features the wonderful drawings of Reginald Birch. Readers could sigh with comfortable pleasure for William Dean Howells continued account of Nathaniel Hawthorne's fictional heroines. Long before ETSY, there were individuals doing home-made gifts, and Harper's Bazar focused on some do-it-yourself projects that seem just like today. To be "with it" in 1900 meant one read "Harper's Bazar". Women who paid attention to culture and style paid attention to this entertaining and informative magazine. There are also some fascinating period advertisements , and especially the unusual (for its time) full color advertisement for Shredded Wheat recipes.
