The subject, born 1853, Hopewell Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, to Thompson and Elizabeth Dickey Hudson, married Martha Cooper in 1877. Hudson served as justice of the peace in Hopewell.

Vintage publicity photograph of actor Rock Hudson. Newspaper clippings and date stamps on the verso. Hudson signed a long-term contract with Universal-International in 1949. He received his first film credit with the studio the same year, in William Castle's "Undertow," but would not be promoted to leading man status until 1952, when he would appear opposite Yvonne De Carlo in "Scarlet Angel." 8 x 10 inches. Very Good, with emulsion moderately cracked.

Vintage oversize borderless satin finish photograph of actor Rock Hudson in a music store, trying out a piano while smoking a cigarette, 1962. Stamp of photographer Sanford Roth on the verso. Hudson taught himself to play the piano by ear as a child. Brooklyn-born photojournalist Sanford Roth was best known for his portrait photography, capturing iconic, intimate images of artists and actors throughout his decades-long career, including Marc Chagall, Joan Crawford, Albert Einstein, Henri Matisse, and Elizabeth Taylor, among many others. From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969. 9 x 13.5 inches, archivally matted in a 20 x 16 inch 8-ply white mat. Very Good plus.
