Condizione: Acceptable. Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Aggiungi al carrelloOctavo, green boards (hardcover), gilt letters, 193 pp. Very Good+, with tidy bookplate and light foxing (age darkened spotting) to pages edges; in a Fine, mylar protected dust jacket. From dust jacket: During the second world war the pilots of Air Transport Auxiliary -- almost all of them amateur pilots of limited experience -- were given the responsibility of ferrying virtually all RAF aircraft. They were given dual instructions on half-a-dozen or so representative types of aircraft; thereafter they were required to fly any and every type that came their way. To make this seemingly impossible job possible ATA's Technical Department produced Pilots' Handling Notes for all the ordinary, and some of the extraordinary types of aircraft ferried. In this book are reprinted, for the first time ever, the ATA's Handling Notes on seven notable types, the Hurricane, the Typhoon, the Airacobra, the Mosquito, the Beaufighter, the Wellington and the Liberator. Hugh Bergel, one-time CO of one of the ATA's Ferry Pools, who himself ferried about 950 aircraft of 80 different types (including these seven), heas written an introduction describing the formation, organisation and work of ATA, and has interpolated comments on points of special interest in the Notes. The book is illustrated by photographs of the seven aircraft types and close-up views of their cockpits and instrumentation. Aviation, World War II, WWII, Second World War, Military History, Pilot Biography, Air Transport Auxiliary. bxsli.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover with dust jacket. Condizione: good condition. This book, written by an A.T.A. pilot, describes the A.T.A. ferry flying - often in marginal weather conditions within England and Scotland during WWII: Hugh Bergel was one of many hundreds of men and women of all ages who, between the wars, joined a Light Aeroplane Club and learnt to fly, for fun, at their own expense. But to these very ordinary amateur pilots there came the chance to do some flying that by all peacetime Standards was quite extraordinary, for they were given the opportunity to fly - still as civilians - all the aircraft that the R.A.F. used, from the smallest and slowest to the biggest and fastest. In short, they were offered the privilege of becoming Ferry Pilots in that unique experiment in extemporisation known as A.T.A. - Air Transport Auxiliary. Bergel has written a personal story of his 4 1/2 years in A.T.A., delivering to the R.A.F. over 900 aircraft of 80 different types. While always stressing the sheer enjoyment that he found in the work, he does not hide the fact that it could be difficult and exhausting, and that it was not without its dangers. The story is significant in that it demonstrates that in an emergency the amateur can take on a job that in normal times would be considered to be far beyond his capability, and that he can surprise everbody, including himself, by doing it well. 126 p. many photos. …
