A brief synopsis appears on the final page. The programme is soiled, especially close to the foreedge. Hugo von Hofmannsthal adapted Sophocles's tragedy for the stage in Berlin in 1903; his work quickly took on a life of its own inspiring Strauss's opera, Elektra, and being translated for productions all over Europe.
