La distribution de chacune des espèces est présentée sous forme de cartes. Ce travail est fondé sur des prospections de terrain dans les différentes régions écologiques du département, une compilation des données bibliographiques et une exploitation des ressources fournies par les herbiers. Région après région, le lecteur est invité à découvrir l'exceptionnel patrimoine bryologique des Pyrénées-Orientales, à travers les sites remarquables, les espèces mythiques, et les autres, plus communes.
