He wrote many books commencing with a History of Birmingham (1781) as well as a history of his home town but was also a celebrated walker walking the entire length of Hadrian's Wall some 600 miles in 1801 and said to be the first person to do so.The novelist Jane Gardam herself from Coatham, writes interestingly about the book in "The Iron Coast".…
