Edition partagée entre les deux imprimeurs parisiens Josse Bade et Jean Petit. Titre portique avec la marque du célèbre imprimeur Jean Petit. Colophon au Fo.CLXXXIIIIvo. (Renouard, Impr. parisien, II, no. 252). Typographie en lettres romaines en deux tailles, le commentaire encadrant le texte de Lucrèce. Nombreuses lettrines initiales sur bois. Reliure en veau brun aux armes de Mathieu Molé (1584-1656). Dos à nerfs avec titre en lettres dorées et caissons à fers d'angles marqués au centre du chiffre de M. Molé, formé des lettres M. O. L. E. en capitales romaines. Plats ornés des grandes armes du propriétaire. Ex-libris: André Gutzwiller. Quatre nerfs légèrement frottés. Magnifique exemplaire, très beau papier, conservé dans une reliure de caractère. Très rare sur le marché. Cette seconde édition révisée et augmentée du commentaire de Pio, près la première de 1511, est un exploit de philologie et un moment majeur de l'histoire de la réception de Lucrèce. L'humaniste Jean Baptiste Pio fut le premier à donner une édition critique du De Rerum Natura où il réussit à restaurer l'élégant travail littéraire et philosophique de Lucrère. (Palmer, Reading Lucretius in the Renaissance, 2014: 161). Jean Petit, ou Jehan, un des quatre libraires jurés de l'Université, exerça à Paris entre 1492 et 1530 env. On dit qu'il imprima plus de 10% des publications parisiennes. Souvent associé avec d'autre imprimeur, il travailla souvent avec Robert Etienne et Josse Bade. (Renouard, Imprimeurs parisiens, 1898: pp. 291-293). Mathieu Molé (1584-1656), seigneur de Champlâtreux, premier président du parlement de Paris, joua un rôle important sous la Fronde et devint par la suite garde des sceaux. "Cet éminent et courageux magistrat, qui laissa des Mémoires du plus haut intérêt, fut aussi un bibliophile fervent." Il possédait une bibliothèque composée de livres dont la plupart furent habillés par Le Gascon. (Armorial du Bibliophile, I: 119).
