Le sue poesie inedite documentano il percorso poetico dagli anni della prima giovinezza alle soglie della maturità. Sono accorpate in tre raccolte per una loro precisa collocazione spazio-temporale. La prima è riferibile al periodo 1957-59 quando l'autore, sedicenne, frequentava gli studi liceali in Sicilia. La seconda s'innesta nel periodo universitario a Torino, 1960-64, e il ricordo della Sicilia è ancora vivo e struggente. Nella terza l'autore, a Boston per il dottorato al MIT 1966-70, vede la Sicilia nel desiderio della memoria. Il tema fondamentale è, per tutte, la Sicilia. Mare di solitudine infinita. Piane arse dal sole eterno. Verde di aranceti dal profumo morbido e sensuale. È la madre ancestrale, la radice dell'essere, il fulcro intorno al quale l'universo si contorce. È il silenzio in cui fioriscono i sogni della giovinezza. È l'amore, dapprima timido, mitizzato, incompiuto, finalmente cosi pieno, totale da diventare tema dominante. The framework of Lie algebras, initially introduced by - phus Lie in the last part of the 19th century, has been considerably expanded to include graded Lie algebras, in nite-dimensional Lie algebras, and other algebraic constructions. Algebras that were originally introduced to describe certainpropertiesofaphysicalsystem,inparticularbehaviorunderrotations and translations, have now taken center stage in the construction of physical theories. This book contains a set of notes from lectures given at Yale Univ- sity and other universities and laboratories in the last 20 years. The notes are intended to provide an introduction to Lie algebras at the level of a one-semester graduate course in physics.
