First edition. Octavo. Publisher's original cream parchment-covered boards, the upper board and spine with decorative vignettes in gilt, green and blue and with titles in gilt. Top edge gilt. The text taking the form of an illuminated manuscript by Ibbs, lithographed in green, blue, black, and gilt by McLagan & Cumming of Edinburgh, incorporating decorative borders and initial capitals, a miniature of a choir to the frontispiece, and another of a child riding a bat to the half-title page and the first initial capital. [35]pp. A very good copy, the binding secure with a little rubbing to the joints and dust-soiling to the parchment boards. The contents with a little cracking between pp.[10-11] and some light foxing to the endpapers are otherwise in very good order. A beautiful edition of the songs from Shakespeare's plays, forming a vividly lithographed version of an illuminated manuscript by the artist, illuminator and calligrapher Edith Anne Ibbs (1862-1937).
