It is a small swamp next to the Aniene River, under a flyover on the rin…g road circling the eastern outskirts of Rome. Attempts have been made to protect the area's flora and fauna by designating it as a nature reserve, though these efforts have failed and it remains abandoned and with no environmental protection. Yet it has ended up protecting other living creatures: Angela, a six-year-old child, was born here and grew up here with her parents Piero, from Sicily, and Luba, from Russia, in a shack under the flyover. They have found sanctuary in the swamp - a safe shelter, hidden from the rest of the city - a different and invisible existence, unimaginable to all those who drive over the flyover every day. La Teoria del Vuoto nasce da una fotografia che ritrae una scena di vita quotidiana a Buccinasco, un sobborgo vicino a Milano. Anni fa, in quel tranquillo contesto rurale, furono ritrovate alcune armi, nascoste o abbandonate da ignoti. Da questa scoperta è nata una rete di episodi, luoghi e persone che si è estesa in tutta Italia, arrivando fino a Platì, un piccolo paese vicino a Reggio Calabria la cui storia si è intrecciata per decenni con quella di Buccinasco. La fotografia è tratta da Corpi di Reato. Un'archeologia visiva dei fenomeni mafiosi nell'Italia contemporanea, un progetto fotografico di Bonaventura, Imbriaco e Severo, presentato per la prima volta nel 2012. Corpi di Reato ha esplorato il paesaggio italiano alla ricerca delle tracce lasciate dalla mafia, confrontandosi con l'invisibilità di questa presenza diffusa e mutevole, che è passata dalle stragi violente alle infiltrazioni silenziose. La Teoria del Vuoto riprende questa indagine, portandola in nuove direzioni dove la domanda centrale diventa come la fotografia possa continuare a raccontare e documentare oggi.Il vuoto funge da metafora delle modalità di espansione della criminalità organizzata: il vuoto può essere inteso come la permeabilità di territori impreparati alla minaccia criminale, la facilità con cui i clan si insediano; il vuoto è anche quello che si ritaglia nel tessuto sociale, erodendo la legalità. Infine, il vuoto riflette anche il divario tra l'immagine di superficie e la realtà più profonda di luoghi come Buccinasco e Platì: la prima appare come un'immagine di facciata e la seconda come un'immagine di vita. La prima appare come un'ordinata cittadina del Nord Italia, mentre la seconda è una roccaforte nascosta tra le montagne dell'Aspromonte. Book.
