Accoltis, Franciscus de, was born in Arezzo, Italy about 1418, Franciscus spent his life as a wandering scholar of great renown with a high income. He taught law at Bologna (1440-45), Ferrara (1448-54, 1457-61), Siena (1454, 1466-79), and Pisa (1479-84), where he died in 1485/86. First editions, thus, No. 52 of 112 copies printed, of this limited edition containing an original leaf from the 1497 edition: "the first important printed treatise in German. It combines a compilation of the ancient and medieval authorities with Brunschwig's own extensive experience. . . and is notable for its woodcuts, some of the earliest specimens of medical illustration." The leaf included here is a survivor from Chapter Three addressing how to find veins and treat open wounds.
