Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a comprehensive historical overview of applied optics and optical glass research at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). It chronicles the NBS's significant contributions to the development and advancement of optical instruments, including refractometers, range finders, and camera lenses, particularly during World Wars I and II. The research, which helped meet the armed forces' need for precise optical devices, resulted in a groundbreaking understanding of optical properties and measurement techniques. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book, providing an objective method of testing photographic lenses, was published in 1953 and provides photographers with two sets of charts by which the resolving power of a photographic lens may be measured and assessed against a set of predefined values. The author includes detailed instructions on the procedure and technique to be followed in order that comparable values may be obtained by different observers. This book offers an insight into the science of lens resolution and includes some ground-breaking knowledge from the field of applied optics, which had seen considerable development in the preceding decades. It is an ideal tool for anyone interested in accurately testing and rating the performance of a lens.
