hardcover. Condizione: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

8vo. Original printed blue wrappers, lightly sunned, presentation inscription to title-page. First edition. The inscription to the title-page reads: "To Ruth Ericsen, In remembrance of a long, hot summer. Irving S. Cohen". A very good copy published in the same year as the passing of the Civil Rights Act. Irving S. Cohen produced a work that sought to revise the teaching of American history in its wake. The purpose is clarified in the foreword: "Its basic aim is to promote a better understanding of America's past by developing an increased awareness of the history of American Negroes, their problems, and their accomplishments, both individually and as a group". Melissa Weiner discusses the importance of this bulletin which "represented a true departure from most books then available. It accurately depicted slavery's role in American development, Africa's diverse and advanced cultures prior to the slave trade, and acknowledged African American agency in attributing slave revolts to horrific treatment during slavery". The work concludes with a seven-page bibliography. - Weiner, M. F. Power, Protest and the Public Schools. Rutgers, 2010. p. 122.…

The contents, a little toned to the text block edges, are otherwise clean throughout. Inscribed twice on the page listing the authors (facing the title page); to the top in blue ink: "Personal copy of / Rayford W. Logan", and to the bottom in black ink: "Presented to / Professor George A. Shepperson / with appreciation / and admiration / Rayford W. Logan / Washington, D. C. / August 10, 1978".
