A monograph of photorealist paintings made between 2001 and 2004 by the Estonian artist Ivar Kaasik (born 1965, Kuressaare), with an essay by art historian Harry Liivrand and contributions from Jaan Elken and Raivo Kelomees. Trained at the Estonian Academy of Arts and resident in Berlin since the early 1990s, Kaasik worked first as a metal and jewellery artist and won the De Beers grand prix at the Diamonds International Awards in 1996, the so-called Oscar of jewellery, before his breakthrough as a painter. His canvases, built from photographs and rendered in cold yet sugary hues, belong to the second wave of German and Estonian photorealism and have drawn comparison to Gerhard Richter. The paintings carry Latin titles and have been exhibited across more than twenty countries.
