Johann Georg Kiesow (* 18.12.1718 Zweibrücken, 30.1.1786 Augsburg), Sohn des Bernhard Christian Kiesow, Hofschneider und Kammerdiener des polnischen Königs Stanislaus (I.) Leszynski, war nach dem Medizinstudium in Straßburg, zunächst Militärarzt bei französischen Truppen und danach Leib- und Hausarzt verschiedener Adelshäuser. 1762 ließ er sich in Augsburg nieder, wo seine neuerfundene 'Lebensessenz' so viel Anklang fand, dass die Ärzte und Apotheker, die seine Konkurrenz fürchteten, versuchten, ihn per Ratsdekret aus der Stadt zu weisen, was ein Patent des bayerischen Kurfürsten (1763) verhinderte. 1764 erteilte ihm Kaiser Franz I. ein Privileg, das ihm den freien Verkauf auf zehn Jahre gestattete (1774 und 1784 erneuert). 1772 Bürgerrecht in Augsburg. Bei seinem Tod war 'Dr. Kiesows Augsburger Lebensessenz' bereits in ganz Europa verbreitet. 1786 übernahm sein Bruder Johann Erhard von Kiesow (* 11.9.1731 Saarbrücken, 9.9.1797 Augsburg), Kollegienassessor und russischer Konsul in Augsburg, die Fabrikation und den Vertrieb der Essenz. Seit 1800 leitete sein ältester Sohn Johann Georg ( 1806), seit 1811 dessen jüngerer Bruder Heinrich Ludwig von Kiesow (* 3.8.1792 Augsburg, 11.2.1885 Augsburg) die Essenzfabrik am Maximiliansplatz B 37 (Ulrichsplatz). Seit 1803 bestand in Bayern für 'Geheimmittel' ein Verkaufsverbot, das erst 1833 für die Essenz aufgehoben wurde. Außerhalb Bayerns erfreute sie sich jedoch auch in dieser Zeit größter Beliebtheit. Im Februar 1884 errichtete Heinrich von Kiesow eine Stiftung zugunsten verschiedener Wohltätigkeits- und Heilanstalten. 1902 wandelten seine Erben die Firma in eine GmbH um. 1932 wurde sie an den Augsburger Fabrikanten Julius Lipp verkauft, 1937 übernahm sie Johann Vogt. Ab 1963 führte der Augsburger Apotheker Jakob Kranzfelder die Produktion weiter. Heute wird das Heilmittel in der Elisabeth-Apotheke (Lechhausen) produziert (Augsburger Stadtlexikon ).…
