"He took his secondary education in Trondheim in 1920, and then moved back to Tromsø. He started a newspaper career, as sub-editor of Tromsø Stiftstidende from 1921 to 1922. He was editor-in-chief in Vesteraalens Avis from 1922 to 1928 and Tromsø Stiftstidende from 1928 to 1929. He lived as a trapper in north-eastern Greenland from 1929 to 1934. In 1935 he was hired as secretary for Norges Svalbard- og Ishavsundersøkelser, the Norwegian institution for exploration of Svalbard and the Arctic Sea, later renamed into the Norwegian Polar Institute." One of the publications of the Hudson's Bay Record Society after its break with the Champlain Society who published the Society's first twelve volumes (1938-1949). The Society was formed in order to organize and disseminate the Hudson Bay Company's extensive records going back to 1670. The society disbanded in 1983 with Rupert's Island Record Society taking over publishing responsibilities for HBC. Dr. John Rae (1813-1893)was a Scottish physician and explorer who surveyed parts of Northern Canada, including the Northwest Passage, the Arctic coast near Victoria Island, and the Gulf of Boothia near Hudson's Bay. This book contains notes from his three Arctic journeys as well as his journey in 1854 to discover the fate of the Franklin Expedition.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near fine condition. One of a limited edition which is issued only to subscribers to The Hudson's Bay Record Society. Bound in the publisher's original blue cloth with the spine stamped in gilt. Tope edge gilt. Uncut. Ex-library with bookplate on the front paste down end paper, lettering in white on the spine, and library perforations on the title page. The spine is sun faded.

John Bartholomew (map-maker) (illustratore). 1st edition. 1st ed., pp.115, two col. maps by John Bartholomew on large fold plate showing 'South Polar Regions' and 'North Polar Regions', the map tipped onto rear endpaper, repair to lower title page with paper adhered over what appears to have been a sticker, evidence of small sticker to lower rear wrap and discolouring to front paste-down, light repairs to spine, some foxing to edges, orig pictorial paper wraps. Very good clean condition of this scarce title. Published in 1930 for the British Polar Exhibition, Louis Bernacchi was one of the main organisers of the event and founded the Antarctic Club. He was also the first Australian to work and winter in the Antarctica. Contributors include Frank Debenham, Dr G. Murray-Levick and J.M. Wordie.

Bound in blue card in near fine condition with slight browning and dirtying to edges. Pages fastened by string. Presentation copy of an offprint from the author to Professor Gordon taken from The Geographical Journal, volume 75, number 6. Several black and white photographs by R. C. Wakefield and M. M. L. Parkinson located throughout. An A2 map in blue and brown of the coast region of east Greenland between Scoresby Sound and Danmark Havn tipped in opposite last page of text.
