Vol.I fading is mostly around upper part of front board and rear top edge. Vol.II fading, pale foxing is at rear upper part and a little to front top left corner. Spines are darkening. Title labels are tanned with some wear to edges and print partially obscured. Darkened top edge, tanned foredge. Both volumes have tanned endpapers. Vol.I has some pencilled numbers to top rear of ffep. Vol.II has some scribbling in ink to top of front pastedown which has also left a small imprint to ffep opposite. Couple of smudges to page edges of prelims and edges yellowed throughout otherwise contents are very good, generally unmarked and well-bound.

The original frontispieces are not present. Inserted in Volume I is a frontispiece map of Inverness and four other (relevant) mounted plates and a further three plates in Volume II. Fairly clean tight book may have been bound for Mr Ross in marbled boards with vellum or vellum-like spines and tips. Both spines lettered BURT'S LETTERS VOL I (II) in black.
