Boards are toned and darkened all over, rubbed and chipped at edges, with shelf wear markedly visible on the rear panel. Hinges cracked and a little toning and damage at edges of endpapers, some spotting and use marks throughout else internally neat. A lovely period collection of musical scores for easy pieces for young piano players, accompanied by charmingly delightful illustrations appropriate for each piece.

Jeanne Élisabeth Marie Vieu dite Jane Vieu ou Pierre Valette, née le 15 juillet 1871 à Béziers et morte le 6 avril 1955 dans le 8e arrondissement de Paris1, est une compositrice française. Signé par l'auteur.

Condizione: Bon. oblong, 47 pages Paris, Ernest Flammarion, Enoch, 1904, in-8, oblong, 47 pages, Cartonnage orné d'une large composition en couleurs, sous jaquette illustrée de l'éditeur, Première édition de cette féérie mise en musique par Jane Vieu (1871-1955), élève de Jules Massenet : elle donne à voir, en livre, le spectacle d'ombres chinoises dirigé par J. Berny, projeté pour la première fois en février 1904 au théâtre des Mathurins à Paris. Les belles lithographies sont l'oeuvre du parolier lui-même, Lucien Métivet (1863-1932), comparse de Derain et Toulouse-Lautrec ; les silhouettes des personnages, porteurs de lampions, pêcheurs, cavaliers, mandarins et dames en palanquin, évoluent dans des décors d'inspiration chinoise. Les 15 tableaux de Métivet, portés sur plaque de verre par E. Lamouche, défilaient au cours de séances de "magie lumineuse", qui cherchaient à reprendre le flambeau d'Henri Rivière et Georges Fragerolle au Chat Noir ; l'Adadin de Métivet n'est pas sans évoquer La Marche à l'Étoile de Rivière (1890).
