August 18, 2008) was a California-based American painter, film critic and writer often described as "iconoclastic," but also a well-respected film critic and art teacher; his Wikipedia entry notes his admiration by Susan Sontag and association with such filmmakers as "Howard Hawks, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, William Wellman, Raoul Walsh, Anthony Mann, Michael Snow, Chantal Akerman, George Kuchar, Nicolas Roeg, Samuel Fuller and Andy Warhol."Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
