When Pinky Johnson (Jeanne Crain) returns home to the South to visit her grandmother, she confesses that she's been passing for a white woman while up North studying to be a nurse. She also confesses she is in love with Dr. Thomas Adams (William Lundigan), a white man unaware she is black. One of the seedier (and we mean that in a complimentary way) late noirs, with a tawdry quality that transcended its big studio trappings, "The Tattered Dress" spins a dark tale about a corrupt sheriff in a small Nevada town (Carson) whose principal concerns are the maintenance and upkeep of all illegal activity. Lawyer Chandler and wife Crain stumble into Carson's territory, and conflict ensues. Set in California, shot on location in Palm Springs, California. White titled self-wrappers, noted as Continuity and Dialogue on the front wrapper, production No. 1840, dated January 18, 1957, with credits for director Jack Arnold. Approximately 120 leaves, with last page of text numbered 12. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound with two gold brads along the top edge. Selby US. Revised Final Draft script for the 1952 film. Copy belonging to Robert Arthur, who played Frank Gilbreth Jr., with his name on the front wrapper in manuscript pencil. Based on Frank Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey's autobiographical novel and a sequel to the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen," this film follows the life of the Gilbreth family when the patriarch of the family, Frank Gilbreth Sr., passes away. Their mother struggles to make ends meet and eventually finds help in her children and romance finds her daughters, who rapidly approach adulthood. Shot on location in Santa Monica, California. Salmon titled wrappers, noted as Revised Final on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 19 and production No. 414, dated August 19, 1951. Distribution page present, with receipt removed. Title page present, dated August 17, 1951, noted as Revised Final, with credits for screnwriters Phoebe and Henry Ephron. 122 leaves, with last page of text numbered 120. Mimeograph duplication.
