Aggiungi al carrello[Melbourne] : the artists, 2004. Artist?s book, 180 mm tall, 22 page concertina offset lithograph with original hand colouring, bound in coloured fabric, initialled by the artists. Printed in an edition of 30 copies with one artist's proof, this is copy 13/30. A colourful celebration of the cultural life of New Orleans, Louisiana. "[These two daring pirates]is Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison's ninth book together in a partnership that often involves members of their families helping to construct or contribute to various aspects of their book making. Haby's connection to New Orleans stems from her parents continued enthusiasm for the temporary home they made there in the 1970s. Early last year she accompanied them on a nostalgic return trip, while Jennison remained in Melbourne minding the fort and collating the material Haby sent back. Those Two Daring Pirates is a collage of family snaps, memorabilia, found recipes and the beautiful drawings of flora and fauna which are signature Haby/Jennison." - extract fromArtists' book review by Jurate Sasnaitis inPoster Magazine, Issue eight, Customisation, Autumn, 2005. This artists' book was later exhibited as part of Ex Libris (2005), and The Banyule City Council Works on Paper Art Award 2005. Editions of this book are in the collections of the State Library of Victoria, the State Library of Queensland, Melbourne University Library, Monash University Library, and the National Gallery of Australia (formerly as part of the Ergas Collection). ?We are besotted with paper for its adaptable, foldable, cut-able, concealable, revealing nature. In our artists? books, prints, zines, drawings, and collages, we use an armoury of play, humour, and perhaps the poetic too, with intent to lure you closer. The animal is oft present and easily detectable, the centre of our paper stage. Hard to miss, over here and over there, the animal runs up hills, scales rooftops, and sometimes appears to take flight. Gliding through a scene it is too large to be contained within or perhaps too manmade to call home, that it has a tail or feathers or furred muzzle is not solely why its form appears. For us, the animal is there to question our very behaviour, those moral principles one governs the self by, and to explore our relationship with the natural world. The words of Gogol whisper in the ear, ?the longer and more carefully we look at a funny story, the sadder it becomes.? And so, we leave our scenes open-ended, inviting you to ponder and perhaps find that things are not always as they first appear.? ? Aggiungi al carrello[Melbourne] : the artists, 2016. Artist?s book, consisting of title sheet, contents sheet, 10 cards each printed with an original woodblock and collage sourced from Edwardian postcards, all housed in a custom linen solander box with collage and woodblock inlays. Created in an edition of 10 copies, each unique with a different assortment of collages. "Because I Like You is based on the concept of a love letter to ten mammals. Each of the edition is housed in a black fabric Solander box with inlaid windows featuring one of the ten mammals enclosed. Each page has one mammal lemonwood block print portraitand one mirrored original collage of the portrayed mammal. The mammals featured range from a Greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis) to a Sea otter (Enhydra lutris) by way of a Royal antelope (Neotragus pygmaeus) and a gruff Polar bear (Ursus maritimus). This artists' book has been over a year in the making, based on a back and forth notion we have been toying with more and more (a collage in response to a print this time). The printed portrait shows nature, as intended (close to), and the collage shows the animal in different (and often less than ideal) surrounds. It is also our first book to feature woodblock prints. Because I Like You was released into the wild from our stall at the Melbourne Art Book Fair at the NGV, 2016. The Eurasian red squirrel edition is now in the collection of the University of Melbourne Library; the Sea otter edition is in the collection of the State Library of Victoria; the Greater bilby edition is in the collection of the National Library of Australia; and the Black-and-gold howler monkey edition is in the collection of the State Library of Queensland. In addition, the Polar bear and Royal antelope editions are in private collections. The Greater stick-nest rat edition was acquired by the Mornington Peninsula Shire, as part of the 2016 National Works on Paperexhibition. The Rufous mouse lemur edition was exhibited as part of the Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award at the Fremantle Arts Centre, late 2016." - Artists' statement ?We are besotted with paper for its adaptable, foldable, cut-able, concealable, revealing nature. Aggiungi al carrello[Melbourne] : the artists, 2016-17. Artist's book, consisting of title card, six cards of text, 8 original nineteenth century cartes de visite with individual collages, paint and pencil additions by Gracia Haby, 8 accompanying original pencil drawings on card by Louise Jennison which follow the photographs, colophon sheet with artists' initials, all housed in a custom fabric box with collage screenprint. Unique edition of one copy. In this unique artwork, the collaborative pair of Melbourne artists Gracia & Louise adorn discarded cartes de visite from another century with a wild assembly of creatures, while dressing the sepia figures in colourful costumes from the Ballets Russes. With accompanying delicate pencil drawings returning the animals and birds to their natural world, the artists create a work of incongruous whimsy, when photograph and drawing are placed side by side they form a duo of surreal realism. 'We are besotted with paper for its adaptable, foldable, cut-able, concealable, revealing nature.
