Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and interesting areas in Central Europe. In his book, Jan Jezek attempts to capture and present the cultural and natural beauties of this magnificent corner through words and images. The author guides us through the landscape via stories that reveal the peculiarities of the local nature and cultural phenomena typical for the Kladsko Borderland. All of this is complemented by a large number of photographs taken over the past twenty years, many of which capture attractive places or natural and cultural objects in this form for the very first time. The author's undeniable advantage is that he describes this exceptional landscape and how local people have cultivated and transformed it from wilderness into a cultural landscape since time immemorial, regardless of state borders. The first part of the book contains extensive chapters dedicated to Mount Sleza or the Stone, Owl, and Brdy Mountains, which are located on Polish territory. On the Czech side of the border, similarly described are, for example, the landscapes of the hitherto not fully appreciated Jestrebi and Javori Mountains. We also learn about the region's exceptionally diverse geological structure, which illustrates the prehistoric development of the local landscape. Several chapters also introduce us to the history of coal and uranium mining from the Middle Ages to the present.
