Godfrey Phillips Limited was a tobacco manufacturer, founded in 1844. It grew to have factories around the world, including New Zealand. This little book is a promotional publication issued during the Second World War. It is a humorous alphabetical 'dictionary' and 'Who's Who' of wartime characters, and the following are examples of the contents: Eden, Anthony - a statesman who has given the best years of his life and a hat style to the nation. Hitler Youth - schickelgruberty puberty. League of Nations - an ingenious notion which should be tried sometime. Munitions - where the money we didn't have before the wart goes to. Outpost of Empire - Mr. Richard Dimbleby in the Middle East. War Maps - a race against time for printers. The book is staple-bound in the original green card covers with black and white titling on the front cover. The book is in very good condition with expected shelf wear and some light soiling to the covers. The corners are rubbed with light creasing across the bottom corners and there is wear down the spine edge. The contents are secure and clean with browning to the fist and last pages. There is no inscription.

Joseph Hanson, andSnarling Guns by Tom Moynihan.Buffaloedis dated as 1951, the other volumes are undated but have been dated as circa 1951 using WorldCat and JISC.All very scarce to find works.Western fiction is a genre defined by its setting: in the American Old West frontier. The first ever Western novel is often considered to be The Virginian by Owen Wister, published in 1902. From this point on, Westerns, especially Western short stories, gained popularity, especially through the new medium of pulp magazines. The 1940s saw an influx of seminal Western novels, includingThe Ox-Bow Incident by Walter van Tilburg Clark (1940) and The Big Sky by A.B. Guthrie Jr. (1947), which lead to an increased popularity in the genre. In the publisher's original pictorial paperback bindings. Externally, some shelf wear and edgewear to the extremities. A small closed tear to the tail of the front joint on 'Snarling Guns'. Some handling marks and spots to the paperback bindings, particularly to the front of 'Buffaloed'. Internally, binding is generally firm. Light spotting and handling marks to the first and last few pages of each volume. Rusting to the binding of 'Buffaloed', resulting in staining at the gutter of the first and last pages. Good. book.
