This issue features striking cover artwork promoting Columbia Pictures' acclaimed Technicolor film The Jolson Story, starring Larry Parks as Al Jolson alongside Evelyn Keyes, William Demarest, and… Bill Goodwin. The dramatic cover combines bold typography with theatrical imagery of dancers, orchestra, and stage performance, making it as much a piece of Golden Age Hollywood memorabilia as a collectible piece of Tin Pan Alley sheet music. The music retains the classic collaboration of legendary lyricists Sam Lewis and Joe Young with composer Walter Donaldson, whose work helped define American popular music during the 1920s. Condition is Good. Covers remain complete with moderate overall handling wear, scattered creasing, edge rubbing, and noticeable moisture staining concentrated along the upper margins and corners, with some corresponding light rippling to the interior. Several short edge tears and corner chips are present, including minor losses along the fore-edge and spine extremities. Original staples remain secure, and the music is complete and entirely legible throughout. Despite the moisture exposure, this remains a solid collectible example of an increasingly desirable postwar Hollywood promotional edition. This is a 1946 movie tie-in edition issued to promote The Jolson Story, not the first edition of the song. The original sheet music for 'My Mammy' was first published in 1921 by Irving Berlin, Inc. This Bourne edition is collectible in its own right because of its direct association with the Academy Award-winning film that reignited interest in Al Jolson's music. Sam Lewis (1885-1959) was one of Tin Pan Alley's most prolific lyricists during the first half of the twentieth century. Born in New York City, he began his career in vaudeville before partnering with many of the era's leading composers. Lewis penned lyrics for numerous American standards, including How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm (After They've Seen Paree? (1919), Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue, For All We Know, My Mammy, and Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody. His songs were recorded by generations of performers, from Al Jolson and Bing Crosby to Frank Sinatra, helping shape the sound of the American Songbook. Joe Young (born Joseph Judewitz) (1889-1939) was among the most influential lyricists of the Tin Pan Alley era. After beginning as a singer and song plugger, he became one of America's most successful songwriters. A Charter member and later director of ASCAP, Young collaborated with many of the leading composers of his day, including Walter Donaldson and Fred E. Ahlert. He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Walter Donaldson (1893-1947) ranks among the greatest American popular song composers of the Jazz Age. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was largely self-taught and published his first songs while still in his teens. During the 1920s and 1930s he composed an extraordinary number of standards. Donaldson's melodies became favorites of performers ranging from Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor to Bing Crosby and later generations of jazz musicians. His remarkable catalog earned him posthumous induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970, and his music remains a cornerstone of the Great American Songbook.

Inside are complete piano, vocal, and guitar arrangements, with an advertisement for Johnny Mercer and Matt Malneck's 'Goody Goody' on the inside front cover and Crawford Music's 'I'll Stand By' on the rear cover, firmly placing the publication within the vibrant New York Tin Pan Alley music publishing scene. Condition is Good+. Covers remain complete with moderate edge wear, corner creasing, surface rubbing, scattered handling marks, and several small edge chips and short closed tears, most noticeable along the fore-edge and lower spine. Original staples remain secure with no detached pages. Interior pages are clean and fully legible with light age toning and occasional handling wear. A solid, complete example of a 1936 Crawford Music Corporation issue featuring one of America's best-known 'Sweet Music' bandleaders. This is considered a First Edition / First Printing of the sheet music, bearing the original 1936 Crawford Music Corporation copyright with no evidence of later revision, renewal, or reprint statements. The accompanying advertisements are contemporary to the initial publication and support an original 1936 issue. Joe Young (born Joseph Judewitz) (1889-1939) was one of the premier lyricists of the Tin Pan Alley era. Born in New York City, he began his career as a singer and song plugger before becoming one of America's most prolific popular songwriters. During World War I he entertained U.S. troops in Europe, and over the following three decades wrote lyrics for dozens of enduring standards. A charter member of ASCAP, Young served on its board of directors and was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. His collaboration with Fred E. Ahlert produced several memorable songs, including Take My Heart. Fred E. Ahlert (1892-1953) was one of the most successful American composers of the Golden Age of Tin Pan Alley. A native New Yorker, he earned a law degree from Fordham University but chose music instead, beginning as an arranger before establishing himself as a full-time songwriter. His melodies became standards recorded by artists including Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller. Ahlert also served for two decades as a director - and later president - of ASCAP, reflecting his importance to the American music publishing industry. He, too, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.

The front cover is pure nightmare fuel, featuring Al Jolson in blackface alongside some bizarre goat creature that appears to have a bottle of liquor hanging around its neck. While the lyrics mention drinking, there's no mention of this ungodly monster. A true oddity.
