"Treatise on the Manner of Death of the Drowned, Hanged and Choked." A German translation of a Latin treatise by a famous 18th century physician. It deals with how to recognize that a person is really dead and how resuscitate those who are not. The book is decorated with head-pieces, tail-pieces and one initial. Only a text block (bound pages), without any cover. Anton de Haen (1704-1776) was an Austrian physician of Dutch ancestry born in the Hague. He studied medicine in Leiden under Hermann Boerhaave, and in 1754 went to the University of Vienna, where he became head of its medical clinic. He is remembered for teaching students at the bedside of patients. At Vienna, Anton de Haen was an associate to Gerard van Swieten, whom he worked with in the establishment of structured medical classes. He was an advocate of post-mortem investigations, as well as maintaining detailed case histories of patients.
