    1 S. 8vo. Wohl an den Mediziner Rudolf Rt. von Vivenot (1807-84): "Ueberbringer ist ein Cand. Med. der nach Deutschland reiste um sich in seinem med. Studium zu vervollkommnen. Ich benütze diese Gelegenheit um Ihnen ein Lebenszeichen zu geben [.]". - Ehrmann, seit 1780 Mitglied der Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina, war seit 1804 Arzt am Rochushospital und wurde 1808 zum Medizinalrat ernannt. Der versierte Mediziner zählte zum Bekanntenkreis Goethes und begründete die Stiftung "Orden der verrückten Hofräthe"; daneben betätigte er sich auch als Satiriker. 1784 wurde er in die Frankfurter Freimaurerloge "Zur Einigkeit" aufgenommen. Als Impfgegner kritisierte Ehrmann die von Edward Jenner eingeführte Schutzimpfung gegen Pocken scharf. - Rudolf Rt. von Vivenot gründete 1848 den "Konstitutionell-monarchistischen Verein"; als sich die angestrebte Gründung einer patriotischen Partei nicht verwirklichen ließ, zog er sich jedoch aus der aktiven Politik zurück. Seit 1868 Mitglied der Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina, wurde er 1872 Vorsitzender des Komitees zur Gründung des Sophienspitals in Wien; daneben war Vivenot Direktor des Unterstützungsvereins für Witwen und Waisen des medizinischen Doktor-Collegiums. - In altem Sammlungsumschlag.

"In seiner Schrift "Über den Kuhpockenschwindel" (1802) griff Ehrmann Soemmerring und Lehr wegen ihrer Einführung der Pockenschutzimpfung in Ffm. scharf an." Sabine Hock, Frankfurter Personenlexikon Johann Christian Ehrmann (1749-1827), "am 29. April 1749 zu Straßburg als Sohn des gleichnamigen praktischen Arztes und Professors der Medicin geboren, promovirte 1772 in Basel und wurde 1779 in Frankfurt am Main als praktischer Arzt aufgenommen. 1792 wurde er Garnisonsarzt, 1804 Arzt am Rochushospital (bestimmt für die Aufnahme von Krätze- und Blatternkranke sowie für Syphilitische). Letztere Stellung bekleidete er bis 1816. 1821 zog er nach Speyer und starb daselbst am 31. August 1827. E. war ein angesehener Praktiker. Besondere Verdienste erwarb er sich um die Verbesserung des Frankfurter Lazarethwesens während der Kriegsjahre. Von medicinischen Schriften veröffentlichte er nur einige von minderer Bedeutung, unter denen eine Abhandlung "über den Kuhpockenschwindel" sich in scharfer Weise gegen die Einführung der Vaccination durch Sömmering und Lehr wandte. - Bedeutender war E. als Satiriker in einer Anzahl Schriften, welche als von culturhistorischer Bedeutung für die Stellung des ärztlichen Standes von Stricker theilweise wieder veröffentlicht sind. Allgemein bekannter ist E. durch die Stiftung des Ordens der "verrückten Hofräthe", welchen er mit dem Rector des Gymnasiums Fr. Chr. Matthiae 1809 gründete. Das mit dem Datum des 1. April ausgefertigte und "Timander" unterzeichnete Diplom wurde von 1809 bis 1820 an etwa 700 meist geistig hervorragende und bedeutende Männer - auch an einige Frauen - gesandt, aus Anlaß irgend einer zufälligen und unschuldigen, nicht immer lächerlichen Ursache, oder auf Grund einer Eigenthümlichkeit in deren Leben. Auch Goethe, mit dem E. in Straßburg bekannt geworden war, und mit welchem er später in Frankfurt im Hause des Geheimrath v. Willemer die Beziehungen fortsetzte, erhielt ein Diplom: "Ob Orientalismum Occidentalem"."
