In 1837 he inherited a property and assumed the additional name of Turner. This is a collection of 100 sonnets culled from his Collected Sonnets (1880). The received view of Betjeman's poetry would enumerate suburbs, Amazonian tennis girls, the Church of England and Cornish seascapes among the subject matter, but although these are present there is much else besides."
